I Lost my Job but now have a Great Paid Work from Home Career

Would you like to quit the office, have no boss to answer to and have a flexible work from home career? For the past year now, I am a proud paid work from home Mom.  I get to take my kids to school, help them with homework and see them grow up.  What’s more, there is no more boss to answer to, no more hours to keep.  Best of all I earn more than I used to and I work when I want.

So how did this journey of mine start?  Well, I lost my job last year.  We were OK financially for a short while, but it was worrying not having a regular monthly income.  I had a family to support and wanted to keep things as normal as possible for them.

Now I have always liked using the Internet so I started looking for legitimate paid work from home opportunities.  There was so much information available I was quite confused at first.  I thought about many online offers claiming to be a genuine work from home career (like Ebay sales, filling surveys, data entry jobs, telemarketing etc.  However, I felt that I could not make this into a sustainable paid work from home career that I wanted.  It was also very time-intensive compared to the rewards received.

I needed a paid work from home career that was sustainable and flexible. Also, I wanted something more mentally stimulating and exciting.

I came across affiliate marketing by chance whilst online.  I was doubtful at first, having heard of the many scams and people losing money. But it was really interesting.

Affiliate marketing is a proper paid work from home career using the Internet.  It costs nothing to start other than having a computer and Internet connection.  This is great as some paid work from home business start-ups can require quite a hefty investment upfront.

Affiliate marketing is basically where you promote a product on behalf of someone and you get paid a commission for any sales made.  Now I avoided telemarketing as I didn’t like the idea of having to press gang someone to buy something, which they may not even want. Here, no hard selling is needed and there’s no direct contact with clients!

What you need to do is be able to drive traffic (or visitors or potential buyers) to the relevant product web page. You don’t even need your own website to start although you may want to develop this later as your online business builds up. The main way I started out was by writing articles for publication online. Don’t worry of you are not an experienced writer, just think of it as putting your thoughts about particular topics or products on paper.  There are plenty of free resources to help get you started.

I joined various affiliate marketing networks with products I could promote (such as Clickbank).  As I started to see sales come in (it was slow at first), it dawned upon me the seriousness of this as a paid work from home career. The “light bulb” moment for me was that these articles I had written promoting a product would remain actively working for me on the Internet, without any further attention from me.  I realized I could continue to build upon this by adding more and more products.  This was, for me, a really a sustainable work from home career.

So I wanted to learn more and decided to educate myself.  While there is much free information on the Internet, I considered many training courses (of which there are also many). I was careful in my selection as I did not want to “waste” any investment into my future. After much research, I joined Wealthy Affiliate University where I am still a member today).  Wealthy Affiliate University is a “one-stop” resource effectively.  It is an online Internet marketing community providing all the training, research tools and resources necessary for a successful work from home career in affiliate marketing. Direct mentoring is also available if needed from the more experienced members or from the founders.
