Hiring The Right Telemarketer For Your Business

Hiring The Right Telemarketer For Your Business

When hiring a Telemarketer for your business it pays to hire well the first time around. There is nothing worse than investing hours and hours of your time and energy in a new recruit who then decides that Telemarketing is not for them or who just isn’t capable of getting the results that you need.

You must keep in mind the type of calling your business does and who your target customer is. So when looking for new Telemarketing staff you need to consider:

Firstly, who are your customers? Are they professionals? Mums? Small Business Owners?

People generally relate best to people like themselves. This doesn’t mean that you can only hire people who are like your clients, but it’s best if they can easily relate to your target customer. You will find a lot of information on implementing the best sales process and on Consumer Behaviour at my web site.

Secondly, what hours are you wanting your telemarketers to work? If you are looking for people to work after 4pm, then parents of small children are probably not going to be your best staff prospects. Instead you might advertise on university or college websites (which is usually free) as we know that students are mostly free of an evening (they are also usually motivated and fairly intelligent, which is great for you as a business owner).

And lastly, what is the product/ service you are marketing?

If for instance you are selling products for retired people, it may not be the best idea to have 18 year olds calling these clients. They simply will not relate to each other.

If you were calling high level executives to talk about your training services it would make no sense to have a telemarketer who is still at high school, they would probably feel totally out of their league, and we know that telemarketers need confidence to succeed. It would also not instil confidence in your executive clients.

The Qualities of a Good Telemarketer

These are good general guidelines for what type of person makes a good Telemarketer.

They must have a clear telephone voice
Speak fluently and at a nice pace
You must enjoy speaking to them
They must sound happy, enthusiastic and friendly
Do they communicate clearly who they are, what their experience is and why they think they are suitable for this role?
Are they available the hours you need?
Can they commit to the role long term or are they after a short term role?

All of this is information that you will get when you have your first telephone contact with your new recruit. For this reason it is imperative that all job applicants call you to apply for the role, rather than emailing through a resume.

Listening to their phone manner will be the most important part of your interview process. If they can’t sell you on why you should interview them, then there is a great chance that they are not right for a Telemarketing job.

Do I Need Staff with Experience?

Not necessarily. As per usual, it depends on your type of business. Ask yourself these questions:

Will the call be detailed and require an in depth knowledge of my industry?
Am I providing a script that can be followed word for word? Or am I providing guidelines only for the call?
Are you doing cold calling? Or are you calling an existing client database or warm leads?
Are you selling or appointment setting? Lead generating or introducing your business to people?
Are you confident in the training you are providing new staff?

For me, I have always found that telemarketers with no prior experience are my preference. That is because I know I provide great training, I know what to look for when hiring new staff and I know that I provide a script for every occasion. People with no experience also come to me with no bad habits for me to retrain, which I appreciate.

Having said that, if you require product or industry knowledge, if you are selling your product/ service in only one or two phone calls, if you are cold calling, if you provide no firm script or if you don’t provide much training you should hire experienced telemarketers.

Important Tips to Improve Your Company’s Telemarketing Campaigns

Important Tips to Improve Your Company’s Telemarketing Campaigns

With the world’s economy ever changing as stock market prices would fluctuate. Companies need to up their game plan if they want to survive in today’s business industry. In order to keep sales revenue to a maximum, a company can do telemarketing campaigns, or even better is to outsource to a telemarketing call center. This is because telemarketing can accomplish the sales goals of a company through actively cold calling leads and turning them into customers for the company.

Most telemarketers only have that one chance to persuade a possible client into purchasing a specific product or service. In order to do this, telemarketers need to be skillful and has to fully understand what the client needs and have an adequate knowledge about the products that they are selling. If the call center representative would handle the call poorly then he can expect that his client will hang-up midway. Some tips are listed below to help your company to improve in gathering sales prospects and customers.

Professional Training

Make sure that the telemarketers that you hire or you choose to outsource can effectively and efficiently handle calls in a day-to-day basis. They should have a profound call center experience or have an extensive sales background in order to assure you that you can get your daily dose of sales. If you hire a telemarketer that has little to no experience in handling calls or making sales, just make sure that the telemarketer in training can learn quick, is able to apply what he learned effectively, and can work with minimal to no supervision. Also, with proper training you can boost product familiarity towards your telemarketers in order to answer all related questions asked upon the possible client.

Always Maintain High Standards

Make sure that the level of standards that you are going to share to your telemarketers or to the professional telemarketers that you outsource will always be at an all time high. This would ensure the quality of service that they will be performing towards your possible clients. Always remember that it is not necessarily the volume of calls that they make if they don’t make a sale. In this scenario, always make sure that quality is always better than quantity, or if your telemarketers can make the best out of quality and quantity at the same time then its much better.

Make Sure To Make The Right Call at The Right Time

There are a lot of times when call center agent would call their prospect clients only to find out that they are disturbing them in some way. This would make the prospect frustrated and it would be even harder to make a sale. Make sure that your telemarketers know that it is the right time to contact your clients. Simply by asking “Is this a good time to talk to you about our latest product? Or should I call back another time?” Not only that you will be able to gain the customers respect, you can also assure yourself that the name of your company is being taken care of in a good way.

Smiling Is Contagious

Even though your telemarketers and your prospect client cannot see each other, they will know if the person at the other end is smiling or not. Knowing this, your telemarketers should always find ways to make your prospect clients happy and comfortable about the situation in order to build a good business relationship to ultimately relay a business message, promote your products, and finally acquire that sale.

Six Secrets of Success

Another segment from the Classic Motivation DVD Series by Stan Billue, the Sales Training Legend. It’s titled Becoming Confident from the DVD entitled Six Secrets of Success. You can subscribe to Stan’s free Monthly Newsletter at www.StanBillue.com

More scratch video for the training project (3+ years in development) at work. They needed someone surly who was obviously annoyed at all the spam, junk mail, telemarketers, and door-to-door salesmen. I was immediately typecasted. Even the president of the company came in and said she thought I was a good choice for the role. Heh. I was good enough that they did not replace me with a professional actor later — I got to work with the professional actors. Granted, I was the only one who couldn’t remember lines I’d memorized 30 seconds ago… And I was the only one that made everyone have to stop production and hook up the telepromper machine… But my rate was still so much lower that the ROI on my acting was likely higher than that on the pros. I’d like to see the final video sometime. Clint. complaining, sitting. junk mail, mail, scratch video, spam, telemarketers, training. business, McLean, Virginia. August 16, 2007.
